This was, for the most part, a performance art cataloging the breaking of this particular sheet of glass, as well as using the pieces to then build up and create something new.  Glass has always been an attractive material for me.

The re-constructed photo becomes this mix of delicate translucency with a fragile teetering of sharp, jagged rubble.  This is at its purest form a metaphor for life and the evolution of the self.

This video was made as a direct response to the “Call of Duty: Black Ops” video game commercial that has been on for some time now.  The video is a horrific meshing of celebrities, playful gaming, and the deadly environment of war.  Positing the mantra “Theres a soldier in all of us” declares our fascination with war is not yet over, and gift-wrapping foreign policy in a video game is a dangerous thing, if you ask me.

I used 2 projections, directly opposite each other, while standing in military garb in the center.  The left is the Black Ops commercial, and the right contains a slideshow of images of war, from World War 1 all the way up to the current debacle in Afghanistan and Iraq.  I superimposed the text from the commercial on all of these images, asking the viewer to reconcile this mantra put forth by the video game.
